Why we never ask for your exchange API keys

Caliente Signals · Updated

Caliente never asks for an exchange API key, because it never places an order.

An API key is a credential you create inside your exchange account and hand to a program so it can act as you. Depending on the permissions you grant, that can mean reading balances, placing orders, or moving funds. Any tool that trades for you needs one. That is what trading for you means.

Two different jobs

Execution tools and alert tools are answers to different questions. One takes the decision off your hands. The other tells you the moment your own condition is met and leaves the decision where it was.

Neither is the correct answer for everyone. Handing over a key buys you speed and consistency at the cost of running your account through somebody else's software, and of a configuration you have to get exactly right in advance. Plenty of people take that trade knowingly and are well served by it.

Caliente is for the other preference: you want the watching automated and the decision kept. That is the whole design, and it is why there is no key to hand over.

What we do instead

We read public market data, check it against the rules you wrote every five minutes, and send you a message when one comes true.

The prices are public, and turning them into alerts is not. Candles have to be fetched and kept in step, indicators computed the same way every time, thirty pairs across six timeframes watched continuously, and a message delivered within a couple of minutes of the close that triggered it. That is what you are signing up for, and none of it needs access to your account.

There is also nothing to front-run. Your rules run for you alone, rather than going out to a channel of other people first.

The trade-off is real and worth stating. You place the trade yourself, and if you are asleep when the alert lands, nothing happens. If you would rather not be at the wheel, this is not the product for you.
